IPM Membership Promotion
IPM Membership Promotion is available to all current members of the Institute. Once you have become a member of IPM, you will be encouraged to progress to higher levels of membership, to reflect your increasing experience and acquisition of skills, knowledge and perhaps even qualifications in the area. You are encouraged to apply for Membership Promotion whenever you feel that you have the necessary qualifications, professional competencies, place management experience or evidence of impact upon the industry required for the level you wish to gain promotion to.
If you wish to apply for a Membership Promotion please ensure that you are confident in your achievements and your experiences. The Membership Promotion Diagnostic will remind you of the essential criteria for election at each IPM membership level, and your IPM Membership Election letter (from your initial election) will provide customised feedback concerning the necessary requirements for you to progress to higher levels.
Alternatively, please use the IPM Membership Diagnostic (click) again to receive a recommended membership level. If you are still unsure please contact the IPM office on +44 (0)161 247 6041 for further advice.
Promotion through the levels of membership can be made simpler through the use of the IPM’s on-line portfolio tool in the e-Academy, which all members have access to. The on-line portfolio enables members to keep evidence of their achievements, qualifications, and experiences on an on-going basis. Members can open up their portfolio for review, when they wish to apply for a promotion - If you wish to use this method the please contact info@placemanagement.org to arrange assessment.
STEP 1: Complete the IPM Membership Promotion Diagnostic
The diagnostic will direct you to the correct application forms based on your current membership level, and provide you with the necessary information to aid a successful membership level promotion within the Institute. The diagnostic assumes a single level promotion within the IPM e.g. Associate – Member.
STEP 2: Complete your IPM Membership Promotion Application
Click the appropriate link on the diagnostic to download the necessary form. Please ensure you follow the IPM Guidance Notes (downloadable below) provided to ensure you complete the sections appropriately.
Please note that all Promotion applications are subject to a £30 assessment fee, which should be submitted with your application. Applications will not be assessed before receipt of assessment fees.
STEP 3: Submit your IPM Promotion Application
Email your application to info@placemanagement.org or use the postal address below. Online forms will be submitted automatically after payment is taken. Full payment options are available by following the link to IPM Membership Payments (click).
POSTAL ADDRESS:

The IPM will follow-up any applications if more information is needed. If your Promotion application is not approved you will be contacted by the IPM to inform you of the decision.
Please note that this initial payment does not include your IPM annual membership fee for your new membership level (if you are successful) as applicants are still subject to membership election by the IPM Board. Membership assessment fees are non-refundable.
STEP 4: Confirmation & Payment
When the IPM receives your Promotion application and assessment fee you will receive an email confirmation of receipt. Your application will then enter into the IPM membership election process, which takes 4-6 weeks. When your application has been assessed and the promotion decision has been confirmed by the IPM Board you will be invoiced for your IPM annual membership fee with details of how to proceed with payment.
Payment details are available in the IPM Membership Payments Section (click). Once IPM receives payment the Institute will release your new IPM Membership Certificate.
