Manchester Metropolitan University puts real value in the practical application of its world-class research as well as its long tradition of management education. The Faculty of Business and Law has supported industry and commerce in the city since 1889, and in 2006 founded The Institute of Place Management, the professional body and learned society for people who make better places.  With an international reputation for research and impact, the Institute of Place Management has seen significant growth, supporting the growing appreciation of the importance of place in policymaking as well as in regeneration and development practice. This includes the adoption of the Business Improvement District model as a way to manage and develop locations. Leading UK Business Improvement Districts have partnered with the Institute of Place Management to form The BID Foundation, which was launched at the beginning of January.

The Institute of Place Management and The BID Foundation are now seeking a new, joint, Executive Director who will be responsible for delivering an ambitious business plan across both memberships.  We have a collective vision to transform places through the professional practice of our members and partners – and we need a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly competent individual to help us achieve this.  The Executive Director will serve on the Executive Board of the IPM, working alongside the Special Interest Group Directors and Editor of the Journal of Place Management and Development, and report to the Chair of the Institute of Place Management, with guidance from the Chair and Vice-Chair of The BID Foundation Council.

We are looking for a self-starter who can grow the membership of The BID Foundation and IPM and oversee the development and delivery of a range of membership services including accreditation, CPD, training and events. It is important for the Executive Director to be respected within the place management industry and to be able to represent the industry to external stakeholders, including policy makers and the media.

The successful candidate will be an excellent operational manager with strong strategic, communication and networking skills.  An awareness of the environmental, political and commercial issues that relate to place management and experience of working at a senior level in a member-based organisation would be advantageous.
