Last night's #indiehour on twitter (every Tuesday between 8pm and 9pm London time) featured a question and discussion session with Institute directors Cathy Parker, Steve Millington and Simon Quin, authors of 5 ways to save Britain's struggling high streets.

A lot of ground was covered, from the potential role of Business Improvement Districts, what can one market trader do to rekindle a market, how to animate a quiet pedestrianised street, the impact of out of town development, what online retailing is doing to the high street, why shops stay empty, the powers of local authorities, through to whether towns are different types, what actions can be taken to bring about change and the importance of collaboration.

#indiehour is a great opportunity for independent retailers of all types to share ideas and lend support to one another. Established by Richard Shorney (@retailmentoring) it is definitely worth a look.

We enjoyed the experience and are really pleased to see active businesses engaging with their high streets.
